educational and part recreational, the new Cockney Museum is the latest
and much anticipated London attraction dedicated to preserving and
promoting the capital�s rich history. The Museum is an interactive
journey through the life of London�s East End during the last two
centuries � paying particular attention to the daily experiences of
the poor and working classes of in Victorian times. Making full use
of modern technology, the Cockney Museum will bring history to life
with multi-media presentations, special effects recreations of scenery
and professional staff role-playing in period costume. All the senses
will be engaged. Traditional food will be available and authentic
smells will accompany the various exhibits.
The biggest advantage The Cockney Museum has over other historical London attractions is that the development and day to day running is the responsibility of The Pearly Guild. This organisation is made up of genuine Pearlies � descendants of the original Pearly Kings and Queens and costermongers who lived the lives the museum is dedicated to honouring. The stories, documents and memorabilia passed down from generation to generation are the backbone of all the presentations and exhibits and people with a personal connection to the subject matter will be on hand to share their anecdotes and memories.
